Preservation and Digital Preservation are not the same.

Preservation is related to the physical document, preventing the document decay. See the Preservation article in Wikipedia.

This preservation is one of the first reason to digitise the documents. Using the digitised documents is not necessary access to the original. 

The Digital Preservation is related to the Digital Document and consist on preserve the Digital file, its access, content, quality and reliability. See also the Digital Preservation article in Wikipedia. For a best and enjoyable undersanding you can watch this video.
